About Eastbourne and its neighbourhoods

Get to know the seafront, the old village streets and the neighbourhood centres that make Eastbourne more than a seaside stop.

Start with the seafront, then look inland

Eastbourne sits on the East Sussex coast where the South Downs meet the sea. The long promenade, shingle beach and pier are its most familiar landmarks, but everyday life also happens around neighbourhood shops, parks, workshops and community spaces away from the water.

For a first visit, use the railway station and town centre as a starting point. Terminus Road leads towards the seafront, while Little Chelsea offers a different route through independent shops around Grove Road and South Street. The red brick town hall and its clock tower make a useful landmark at this end of town.

Choose a neighbourhood to explore

Meads has its own village shopping street towards the western end of town. Old Town has an older village character, with local shops and green spaces around Motcombe and Gildredge Park. Hampden Park, Langney and Sovereign Harbour each offer another starting point for finding services closer to home.

These places are useful search areas rather than interchangeable names for the town centre. A shop in Meads and a mobile service covering Langney can both be relevant, but their addresses and visiting arrangements will differ. Use each listing to check the actual base and the area served.

Make space for a local stop

Combine the larger attractions with a smaller neighbourhood visit. A seafront walk can lead to a cafe, an independent shop or a performance, while a trip inland can make room for a park and the practical errands that keep a local high street useful.

The directory brings businesses and community organisations together so you can plan by service as well as location. Browse the relevant category, compare the details provided and contact the business directly about the work or visit you have in mind. For travel planning, use current visitor information rather than assuming every neighbourhood is a short walk from the station.
